I encourage bridging personal experience with theoretical knowledge to equip students with a working grasp of sociological concepts whether they are majors, minors, non-traditional students, or simply trying to fulfill a general education requirement. My commitment to community-based and participatory research informs my pedagogy, and whenever possible (and appropriate), I work with students to facilitate participatory research including: mapping community resources, ethnographies of immigrant neighborhoods, surveying social resources available to community-based organizations. These classroom activities have resulted in students' founding of community justice projects, honors senior theses, and graduate school research agendas that build on classroom activities and assignments.

Mentorship from POC and feminist faculty and community leaders has been formative to my education, and I prioritize mentorship with students. My classroom recognizes students’ multifold positionalities and strives never to rely on student diversity itself to do the teaching, or to allow privilege to exempt itself from thoughtful consideration of personal experiences.

Beyond formal teaching in the classroom, I served a 7-year term as a Student Affairs Officer at the UCLA Scholarship Resource Center, where I worked closely with undocumented, underrepresented minority, former foster youth, and community college transfer students fund their education, study abroad, and post-college endeavors.  Additionally, I served as an advisor or coordinator for the UCLA Bruin Guardian Scholars Program for former foster youth, and UCLA Transfer Alliance Program for community college partnerships.
